Ambrose's story

Ambrose held court for years atop a bakery's brass register, or so the story goes — an off-duty therapist-bear moonlighting for tips paid in crumbs and confessions. His shirt still reads its instructions plainly: DON'T STUFF YOUR FEELINGS, teal letters bright as the day someone screen-printed his calling. His amber eyes have the patient squint of someone who's heard every version of 'I'm fine.' Fur the color of oat and cocoa has thinned just slightly along the seat, evidence of long shifts on a stool built for someone half his size. His paw pads, blush-pink and unfrayed, suggest more listening than lifting. Freshly washed, present, and ready to take the next appointment — home included.
