Maple Sugar's story
Maple Sugar arrived already named, as if the two words had been stitched into her from the start — honeyed amber fur, warm all the way through, the exact shade of sugar just starting to caramelize in a pan. She's built in the classic shape, round-bellied and sweet-faced, with one ear combed slightly forward of the other, the kind of small asymmetry that happens when someone has a favorite side for tucking a bear under an arm. Freshly bathed and brushed, her coat has that just-dried fluff to it, every hair standing a little apart. No tears, no thin patches, nothing mended — just a bear who was kept with care, now ready for a second chapter at someone else's kitchen table.
