Mochi's story
Mochi spent what we guess were his early years perched on a shelf in a university biology office, brought down whenever a class of schoolchildren came through to learn about real pandas an ocean away. He was the one passed hand to hand during talks on bamboo forests and shrinking ranges, then set carefully back when the lesson ended. His fur, still thick and evenly crimped, shows none of the flattening that comes from one person's constant grip — just the gentle, shared handling of many small hands across many afternoons. When the office finally cleared out, he came along with the boxes, looking now for one steady lap instead of a lecture hall full.
