Sorbet Shoal's story
Ask where the pink came from and she'll tell you she stood too long in a sunset — one whole evening at the edge of the ice, facing the light, while the rest of her party waddled home to supper. Her back makes a fair case for it: blush plush gone paler across the shoulders, lying in soft whorls, with a gentle pressed lean down the spine seam where she rested against something night after night. The front of her stayed snow-white. Coral beak unscuffed, both bead eyes firm, flippers still springy. Washed gently, brushed out as she dried, stitching checked end to end.
