Bobbin's story
Bobbin maintains, with total confidence, that he once served as team captain for a neighborhood sled derby held every year on the steepest driveway in town. The proof, he says, is right there on his head: a hand-knit red-and-white racing cap, pulled on for luck before every countdown, its front edge gone a little ragged from being yanked low in a hurry. His honey-tan plush is thick and unmatted, his cream paw pads clean and barely creased, more consistent with someone who did a great deal of cheering from the sidelines than actual tumbling downhill. He's hung up his whistle now and is ready to coach from a quieter post — a windowsill, a shelf, maybe the good armchair.
